Martial Arts Organizer.com recommends the Unitech MS210 Barcode Scanner as an excellent entry level bar code scanner.

It's a lightweight, durable and accurate. There's no programming required to use this scanner, just plug it in!

Click this link for additional information about using the MS210 with Martial Arts Organizer 4.

Macintosh Users: It may be necessary to scan the Factory Defaults bar code on Page A-2 in the back of the MS210 manual, then scan the USB bar code, which is the fourth one down on page A-1.

This scanner is covered by a Three year manufacturers warranty. (Contact Unitech at 714-891-6400 or 800-861-8648.)

To begin to use your scanner, plug it in directly to the USB port on your computer and let your computer 'recognize' it as an input device. There many be a Wizard which will guide you through the process. Once that's done, you're ready to scan!

Please note:
This scanner requires the trigger to be pressed each time you scan. See the other scanners offer if you would prefer hands free operation.

Using a bar code scanner to record attendance or sell inventory is optional.

The bar code font is included with Martial Arts Organizer, so all you need to begin recording attendance MUCH faster is a bar code scanner.

This scanner requires a USB connection and must be plugged directly into a USB port on your computer. (It cannot be connected to a USB hub or keyboard.)

One user running OS X reported frequented crashes using the Z-3080 with a USB connector. He also mentioned other USB devices caused crashing as well...

Removing the scanner stopped the crashing, so he returned the scanner and received a replacement which works fine... so apparently the first scanner he purchased was defective.
