Attendance Checkin Greeting: Fixed Past Due warning. Really!

Student ID cards: Styles of Instruction can be individually selected for each student. Click the Edit ID card button, or click on the School Name and address.
The School or Style logo printed on Student ID cards can now be selected on the Style Preferences screen. Go to School Setup, click on a Style of Instruction, then click the Style Preferences folder tab. There's now a drop down menu in the bottom left corner which allows you to select the logo to print on ID cards.
Invoice Duplication: There's a new Preference on the Preferences/Invoices screen which allows you to select whether the Comments on an Invoice are duplicated when Invoices are duplicated.
Duplicating a Student record now duplicates phone numbers and the student's photo.
Faster deletion of ALL enrolled classes! Click the red X next to an enrolled class on the Attendance screen, and select Delete All to quickly delete all enrolled classes for this student.

Attendance Checkin Greeting: Fixed Past Due warning.
Spaces and returns are now automatically removed when clicking the Dup check button (next to the Last Name field on the Student Info screen.) Removed use of the Activator plugin which did this automatically after tabbing out of the Last Name field, but did not function reliably.
Birthday does not print on Student ID cards if no birthday data has been entered into the first birthday field on the Student info screen.
Shortened text on a few terms on Student ID cards to allow more text to fit on cards. For example: "Home Phone" has been shorten to "Home." "Member Since" has become "Since." Birthday years have been shorten to two digits, for examples "1990" is now "90."
List View now displays Rank after the Style of Instruction.
Invoices: For those users who do not wish to print any paperwork after creating an Invoice, "Update Only" has been added to the drop down menu below the Print button on the Invoice Entry screen. Click the Print button with "Update Only" selected to update Inventory for all items on the current invoice -- without printing anything!
Expiration Report now includes an option to select only Active students, or all students.

New Preference flags active students as Absent if they have not attended class in X number of days. The word Absent appears under their photo. Please go to the Preferences/General screen and enter a number of days in the "Flag an Active student as Absent if student has not attended a class in [ ] days" field. It's the fourth entry in the Default section.
Quickly find absentees by setting the drop down menu below the Find button to "Absentees" then click the Find button. (Works on data entry screen, and the Style of Instruction Details screen.)
New Startup Preference warns if any Active students are absent.
If a student is absent, the Style of Instruction is flagged in yellow on the Attendance screen.

New "Check ins per day" field added to the Style of Instruction Details screen which will control the number of times a student can check themselves in each day. The first line of the invoice is displayed under the Student's name. Click into the field and it will pop open to display the entire address, which is now editable.
New address Edit button let's you switch between Home and Billing addresses, or update an invoice to use a new address. For example, if you change a students address after an Invoice has been created, or would like to use the Billing address you've just entered, go to the invoice you wish to correct and click the Edit button. You can then select an address and update the invoice(s).

Fixed a two bugs in Invoice Duplication which could cause invoice items to duplicate improperly if the invoice contains more than one item, or display the wrong duplicated invoice, if duplicating once only.
Improved Accounts and Passwords! Removed second password dialog box when Staff members sign in. All users can now sign in using the Account Name and Password you've created on the Accounts screen in the first (and only) password dialog box.
Note: Accounts must be created with the EXACT first and last name entered on the Staff screen. For example, if you have a staff record for Robert Smith, the Account you create for Robert must have "Robert Smith" as the Account Name. If you enter anything different, for example "Bob Smith" as the Account Name, this user will not be able to view his Notes.
Accounts with Staff access cannot view Notes and Follow ups that are assigned to other staff members. The Account Name used to log in must be the same as the "Assigned to" field of the Note or Follow up, or the "Assigned to" field must be blank.
Created by and Modified by fields at the bottom of the Student Info screen now display the Account Name used to open Martial Arts Organizer.

Windows Users: It appears as though the makers of the Simple Dialog plugin have still not fixed the problem which causes this error message to appear:

This message is completely bogus; there is no lose of data, or premature shutdown happening here. The problem is a splash screen (advertisement) for the Simple Dialog plugin is not being displayed. Please disregard this error message.
In the meantime, I've added my own closing message which appears after successfully quitting Martial Arts Organizer. It looks like this:

I have been working with the developers of the Simple Dialog plugin since January regarding this matter, and although they are quite slow, they are making progress.

Martial Arts Organizer.com has teamed up with Automated Payment Systems to provide fast, affordable Electronic Funds Transaction (EFT) payment processing. Now users can create invoices and send the payment information quickly and securely to Automated Payment Systems. APS will collect your money, deposit it into your bank account, then email you a results file of successful payments which you can quickly import into Martial Arts Organizer 4. They'll also send you a monthly statement. (This service is optional. Monthly and transaction fees apply.)

Fast and Easy Student ID Cards
Cutting up Student ID cards is now a thing of the past! Martial Arts Organizer 4v14 has been programmed to print directly to Avery Name Badges! The Avery 2951 Self Laminating badges come on a 4" by 6" piece of card stock with a very clever self-laminating design. All you need is an ink jet printer that allows you to create a Custom Page size, and you can quickly print and laminate Student ID cards. (See "Avery Badge Instructions.pdf" in the Martial Arts Organizer 4v14 folder for details.) Print Name Badges one at a time, or print them for an entire class!

New ID card feature: And speaking of Student ID cards, you can now change the font, size, style, color and line spacing of the School Name and address. Click directly on the School Name text if viewing the Student ID cards, or click the "Edit School Name" button if viewing the Avery Name Badges. Instructions are right on the screen. Be sure to adjust your school name before printing any ID cards.
All New Next Test Requirements
By popular demand, users can require students to meet more than one requirement in order to be eligible to test. Previous versions of Martial Arts Organizer let you select a date or # of classes or # of hours required in order to be eligible to test. If any one criteria was met, the student was flagged as Eligible. Now users can select a date and/or # of days, and/or # of classes and/or # of hours. For example, let's say you test you have a test coming up on the 15th of next month, but you only want to test those students who have attended 30 classes. The new Style and Ranks screen lets you enter your test requirements: Next Test Date = Feb 15, 2007 AND 30 Classes.
When you update to Martial Arts Organizer 4v14, your Next Test Requirements are automatically converted to the new format, using OR between each date, # of days, classes, or hours.
You should open each Style of Instruction and verify each Rank has the correct requirements. To do this go to the School Setup screen and click on a Style of Instruction. This screen now includes three testing requirement fields for each rank: Next Test Date AND/OR Requirement #1 AND/OR Requirement #2. (See the built in Help for more examples.)
There is also a Comment field for each Rank. This comment will be displayed on the Attendance Check In screen. For example, users can add "Instructor Approval Required!"
After you have changed your rank requirements, these changes will be displayed on the Style of Instruction details screen ONLY AFTER you click the Reset button. To update everyone, go to the Attendance screen for any student and click on an existing Style of Instruction in the upper left hand corner. This displays the Style of Instruction details screen. Next, click the Show All button at the top of the screen, then click the Reset button just above the Close button in the bottom right corner, then click Found Set. That's it! You've just updated all of your students to your new eligibility requirements!
When viewing the Style of Instruction details screen for a student, the Next Test Requirements default to those of the current rank, but you can change the Next Test Requirements for an individual student. So if you have a student who has fallen behind, or has special testing requirements, you can make changes to this students Next Test Eligibility fields. Any changes made do not affect other students. Click Reset to return the Next Test Requirements to the default values for that rank.
There is also an Edit button on the Style details screen which allows editing of Style & Rank information.
Updating is Getting Easier
It's no longer necessary to register the software again before you can update.
When Version 4v15 or any later version is released, you'll be able to update from 4v14 with just a few mouse clicks! Opening folders will be a thing of the past, and moving files will all be done automatically!
To update Martial Arts Organizer, just select "Updating Martial Arts Organizer" from the Wizards menu of the version you are currently using and follow the on screen instructions.
Transferring Files Made Easier
Moving your data between school and home is now even easier. See 'Transferring Files' in the built in Help for details.
If you'd like to dedicate a front desk computer to recording attendance WITHOUT NETWORKING, read the Help note "Attendance Computer: No Network Required" under 'Transferring Files' in the built in Help.

FileMaker Pro 8.5v1 Used - Plugins Updated
If you are not networking Martial Arts Organizer, disregard this section.
Martial Arts Organizer 4v14 now uses FileMaker Pro 8.5v1, however if you currently are using FileMaker Pro 8.0v3, it is NOT necessary to upgrade. Do not upgrade your copies of FileMaker Pro at this time because FileMaker Inc. is due to release another update in the near future to fix Windows Vista incompatibility issues.
This version uses Version 3.0 of the SimpleSound and SimpleDialog plugins. Network users be sure to copy these plugins into the Extensions folder of each computer. See the Networking article for details.

Code Scanners must be re-programmed!
The
reason this update took so long
to complete is there was a VERY
SERIOUS BUG in the Activator
Plug in used to record attendance.
For no apparent reason, the Activator
would fail and Attendance recording
would just stop! 
I
contacted the developer of the Activator
in the Netherlands and after six
emails and a week of hair pulling,
he finally admitted the Plug in would
not function reliably! 
So
it took another week for me to completely
REPROGRAM Attendance recording and
eliminate the Activator entirely
from Martial Arts Organizer 4! The
next code is now completely TAMPER
resistant! Now students cannot move
or minimize the attendance check
in windows!
As
a result of all this reprogramming,
Bar Code scanners must no long append
a TAB after each scanner, but a RETURN.
So if you purchased the ZB-8110 recommended
on the web site, your new
programming instructions are here.
If
you purchased a Z-3080 Bar Code scanner,
your new
programming instructions are here.
If
you purchased any other bar code
scanner, contact the manufacturer
and get instructions for RESETTING
the scanner to the factory defaults.
